Yaks from China stray into eastern Ladakh

Around 40 Chinese yaks ventured into the Indian territory in the Demchok area of eastern Ladakh

Nomads from both sides have traditionally accessed their traditional grazing grounds across the LAC but on occasions Indian nomads were stopped by Chinese soldiers as they crossed on to the Chinese side.
Such incidents are commonplace and happen on both sides whenever graziers stray across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on account of differing perceptions of LAC, sources had stated earlier.

Demchok sector is a disputed region situated near the confluence of the Charding Nullah and Indus River.
It is part of the greater Sino-Indian border dispute between China and India. Both India and China claim the disputed region, with a Line of Actual Control between the two nations situated along the Charding Nullah.
Demchok is one of the two mutually agreed disputed areas in eastern Ladakh with each side having varying claims in the Charding La area.
China has set up tents on the Indian side of Charding nala couple of years before the 2020 stand-off and the presence expanded as the stand-off unfolded in April 2020.
The last several rounds of talks have stalled over disengagement from Depsang Plains and Demchok, with China insisting that they predate the 2020 stand-off.
