World Giving Index 2021
- India got 14th position in the World Giving Index (WGI) 2021.
- India’s rank has improved from its earlier 10-year global average rank of 82.
- The publication reported that at least 61 percent of Indians helped strangers. Meanwhile, 34 per cent volunteered for a cause and 36 percent donated money.
- Indonesia remains in the first place, followed by Kenya. Four African nations now sit in the top 10 -- three of them (Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda) for the first time.
- Western countries including the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands fell out of their highest rankings.
- About 3 billion people, which accounts for 55 percent of the world's adults, reported helping someone they didn’t know in 2020.
WGI:
- It is released by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
- It conducts surveys by asking three questions: have they helped a stranger, given money, or volunteered for a good cause in recent months.
- 2021 survey highlights the impact of lockdowns on charitable giving.
