"USA celebrates 245th Independence day"
-
"American Independence Day is observed on July 4 and is also called the Fourth of July. The date marks the annual celebration of nationhood in the United States.
-
This year marks the 245th anniversary of the freedom of the thirteen American colonies from British colonial rule.
About Fourth of July:
- The day commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress in 1776
- In July 1776, during the second year of the American Revolutionary War (1775–83), representatives from 13 North American colonies of the kingdom of Great Britain voted to declare themselves independent from the crown, forming the United States of America.
- Two days after the historic vote, on 4 July 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed – and each year since, Americans have celebrated.
- The declaration was originally drafted by Thomas Jefferson in consultation with fellow committee members.
Famous line from Declaration of Independence:
- We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal” and have “certain unalienable rights” – among them “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.
Swami Vivekananda's connection with July 4
