Transgenders are now allowed in Odisha Police
- In a landmark decision, the Odisha government has allowed the transgender community to apply for the posts of constables and sub-inspectors in the state police department.
- The minimum educational qualification for sub-inspector post is graduation and for constable post is 10+2.

The Supreme Court had officially recognised the transgender community as the third gender in 2014.

They had given the ruling that transgender people have equal privileges over the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.

The Parliament has also enacted the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 to provide the community equal rights akin to other human beings.
