The additional judge appointed to HC

  • The Central Government has notified the appointment of six judicial officers as judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and one judicial officer as a Gauhati High Court additional judge.

Appointment of HC judge:

  • It is mentioned in clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India.
  • The President appoints chief justice of high court after consulting CJI & governor of the state.
  • For other judges of that court, the chief justice of that high court is also consulted.
  • The Constitution doesn’t determine the strength of HC but leaves it to the President.

Qualification of HC Judge:

  • He must be a citizen of India,
  • at least ten years held a judicial office in the territory of India, Or
  • for at least ten years been an advocate of a High Court or of two or more such Courts in succession

Appointment of additional and acting Judges:

  • It is mention in Article 224 in The Constitution Of India President may appoint duly qualified persons to be Additional Judges of the Court for such period not exceeding two years as he may specific
  • No person appointed as an additional or acting Judge of a High Court shall hold office after attaining the age of sixty-two years.
