Supreme Court to hear pleas on Mekedatu project

• SC has agreed to hear the spat b/w Tamli Nadu and Karnataka over proposed construction of a reservoir by Karnataka at Mekedatu across the inter-State River Cauvery.

Recent developments

• Both States would inform Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to defer its deliberation on proposed construction.

Issues with the Project:

• Violates the decision of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal
• TN claims that it would impound flows of the Cauvery River.
