Sikar in Rajasthan tops school grading index at district level

  • Students in around 61 per cent districts of India had very little exposure to digital learning according to a Ministry of Education report.

Highlights of Performance Grading Index for districts

  • Top performer: Rajasthan’s Sikar, followed by Jhunjhunu and Jaipur
  • Categories.
  • ‘Utkarsh’ category is for districts with score between 81-90%
  • ‘Ati-Uttam’ (71-80%)
  • ‘Uttam’ (61-70%)
  • ‘Prachesta-I’ (51-60%)
  • ‘Prachesta-II’ (41-50%)
  • Pracheshta III’ (31-40%).
  • 12 States and UTs do not have single district in the ‘Ati-uttam’ and ‘Uttam’ categories
  • These include seven States from North East region.
  • Schools across India performed poorly under digital learning category.
  • Rural-urban divide in digital learning.
  • Cause:
    • limited availability of computers
    • Internet facilities
  • Learning outcomes: no district scored below 10 per cent.
  • State-wise PGI index for the year 2019-20
  • Best performing states: Chandigarh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
