Post-2015 birth certificates on DigiLocker

• Birth certificates of children born after August 2015 issued through Civil Registration System (CRS) portal has been integrated with DigiLocker.

DigiLocker

• Government-run mobile application that acts as a document wallet.
• Registered users will be able to access birth certificates online.
• Objective: To issue and verify government documents and certificates digitally.

Civil Registration System (CRS)

• It is an online system for registration of births and deaths under operational control of the Centre.
• Registrar General of India under MHA operates the system.
• State & UT Using CRS to register all births and deaths:
• State: Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
• UT: A&N Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu

• States with their own system or use the portal partially:
• States: Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh have.
• UT: Delhi, Lakshadweep, Puducherry and J&K
