One District One Product ‘ODOP Wall’ launched

  • Recently, One District One Product (ODOP) and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) joined hands to launch ‘ODOP wall’.

One District One Product Wall

  • Under this, products are being identified from all districts to be promoted for their unique qualities and cultural significance.
  • This includes various handicrafts, handlooms and agricultural products that have been associated with the identity of their place of origin.
  • Objectives
    • To help districts reach their full potential
    • To foster economic and socio-cultural growth
    • Create employment opportunities, especially in rural areas.
    • To showcase India’s diverse and exceptional craft heritage.
    • To turn every district in India, into an export hub through promotion of the product in which the district specialises.

One District One Product (ODOP) Program

  • It is an initiative under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
  • Objective: To make the country self-reliant by fostering balanced regional development across all districts of the country.
  • It selects, brands, and promotes one unique product from each district.
    • This encompasses various sectors, including handlooms and handicrafts.

Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission

  • It is a Centrally Sponsored Programme, launched by the Ministry of Rural Development in 2011.
  • Aim: To eliminate rural poverty through the promotion of multiple livelihoods and improved access to financial services for the rural poor households across the country.
  • It involves working with community institutions through community professionals in the spirit of self-help.
  • It impacts livelihoods by
    • Mobilizing rural households into SHGs.
    • Organizing one-woman member from each rural poor household into SHGs
    • Providing training and capacity building to SHG members
    • Providing access to financial resources from their own institutions and banks.
