L-G asks Speaker to comply to GNCTD (Amendment) Act
- LG of Delhi asked for “constitutional compliance” with GNCTD (Amendment) Act, 2021.
- Amendment to GNCTD Act had been challenged by Delhi government on grounds that it violates Article 239AA, which deals with lawmaking power of Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The GNCTD Act
- Came into effect: April 2021 after four sections of GNCTD Act, 1991, were amended.
- Main provisions:
- Clarification of expression “Government” referred to in any law to be made by the Legislative Assembly to mean “the Lieutenant-Governor”.
- Established primacy of L-G over elected government.
