"Global Cybersecurity Index 2020 "
- The 4th edition of Global Cybersecurity Index 2020 has been launched by the International Telecommunication Union(ITU)
Key points:
- India was ranked as the 10th best country in the world in the Global Cybersecurity Index 2020 and India has moved up by 37 places.
- India has achieved 97.5 points from 100 points.
- India also is ahead of China (No. 33) and Pakistan (No. 79) in ranking.
- India has also secured the fourth position in the Asia Pacific region.
- The USA has been the best country for cyber security as per the GCI 2020.
- The United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia has been tied in the 2nd position and Estonia has been ranked at 3rd place in the index.
Global Cybersecurity Index:
- The Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) measures the commitment of countries to cybersecurity at a global level to raise awareness of the importance and different dimensions of the issue.
- It was first launched in 2015 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
- It prepares the index for 193 ITU Member States and the State of Palestine.
Countries have been ranked on the basis of performance on five parameters:
- legal measures,
- technical measures,
- organizational measures,
- capacity development, and
- cooperation.
ITU:
- The International Telecommunication Union is the UN’s specialized agency for Information and Communication technologies.
- Established in 1865,
- ITU has 193 member countries.

The ITU consists of 3 sectors:
- Radiocommunication (ITU-R)
- Telecommunication (ITU-T)
- Telecommunication Development (ITU-D)
