Europe battles to control wildfires

• Europe is battling wildfires that had consumed over 22,000 acres and prompted evacuation of 12,000 people.
• Wildfire in France, Greece, Portugal and Spain have destroyed thousands of hectares of land, forced scores from their homes and killed several emergency personnel since last week.

‘Red’ alert in U.K.

• In the U.K., the weather office issued a first-ever “red” warning for extreme heat, cautioning there was a “risk to life”.
