Decommissioned INS Khukri to be converted into museum
- The Indian Navy's Khukri class missile corvettes' lead ship, INS Khukri, was handed over to the Diu administration on Wednesday to be transformed into a museum.
- It has been decommissioned in December 2021 after 32 years of glorious service.
About INS Khukri
- The Indian Navy's Missile Corvette INS Khukri is the country's first indigenously built missile corvette (high-speed ships that have considerable firepower).
- Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders built it, and it was commissioned in 1989.
- It was unique in that it served in both the Western and Eastern Fleets.
- The ship was assigned to the Indian Army's Gorkha Brigade.
- During its service, the ship covered a distance of 30 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon, or three times the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
- During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, the ship was sunk off the coast of Diu, Gujarat, by Pakistan's Daphne-class submarine Hangor.
- Since World War II, the INS Khukri was the first warship to be sunk by a submarine.
- It is the only warship of the Indian Navy that has ever been lost in battle.
INS खुखरी
- भारतीय नौसेना की मिसाइल कार्वेट INS खुखरी देश की पहली स्वदेश निर्मित मिसाइल कार्वेट (उच्च गति वाले जहाज जिनमें काफी मारक क्षमता है) है।
- मझगांव डॉक शिपबिल्डर्स ने इसे बनाया था, और इसे 1989 में चालू किया गया था।
