Black Fungus

• In the second wave of corona, the patients of COVID are becoming more serious, in such a situation, many patients are being saved by giving steroids, due to heavy doses of such steroids, many patients are getting the disease named 'Mucormycosis' i.e. 'Black Fungus'.
• It mainly affects people who are on medication for health problems which reduces their ability to fight environmental pathogens.

Symptoms:

• Sinuses or lungs of such individuals get affected after they inhale fungal spores from the air.
• Warning signs include pain and redness around the eyes or nose, with fever, headache, coughing, shortness of breath, bloody vomits, and altered mental status.

Treatments

• Treated with antifungals.
• It may eventually require surgery.
