4th tiger reserve in Rajasthan
- Rajasthan is all set to get its fourth tiger reserve in Bundi as the state government has received the go-ahead for it from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
- NTCA’s technical committee has approved the proposal for converting Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary in Bundi, into a tiger reserve.
National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA):
- It was launched in 2005.
- It is a statutory body of the Ministry, with an overarching supervisory/coordination role, performing functions as provided in the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
Project Tiger:
- It was launched in 1973 from the Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand.
- Its aim is to increase the population of the tiger in the country.
- The administrative body for the project is the (NTCA).
- Currently, there are 52 tiger reserves in-country.
Tiger:
- IUCN red list: Endangered
- Listed in Schedule I of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972
Other Three Tiger Reserves in Rajasthan:
- Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Sawai Madhopur, Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar, and Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve in Kota.
